Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a type of digital currency that was created in August 2017 as a result of a fork from the original Bitcoin network. The creation of Bitcoin Cash was prompted by an increasing need among the cryptocurrency community for a more scalable alternative to Bitcoin, with higher transaction speeds and lower fees.

The term "fork" refers to the use of open-source software code, such as that used in the original Bitcoin protocol. A copy of this code is taken and then modified, resulting in two separate versions with their own distinct features and rules. When these changes are implemented within Bitcoin's existing codebase, it creates two different blockchains — one that continues on using its previous version and another which adopts the new update parameters - creating an entirely new version or “fork”.

When comparing BCH to its predecessor, there are several differences worth noting:

- Transactions on BCH are faster than those on BTC due to bigger block sizes, allowing more transactions per second;

- Fees associated with making transactions using BCH are much lower since fewer miners compete for them;

- Additionally, users sending BCH have greater control over privacy settings compared to BTC users – something essential when it comes to truly anonymous dealings online;

In short, many people view BCH as an evolution from traditional Bitcoins by taking advantage of increased efficiency via larger block sizes while maintaining relatively low transaction costs simultaneously. While there still occurs heated debates on whether either could succeed long-term over time (or if they should exist side by side), one thing is certain: at present, it appears both networks are here to stay – providing viable options for both individual traders and large corporations alike!
